Why Add a Watermark?
Watermarks protect your creative work from unauthorized use. Photographers, designers, and content creators add watermarks to assert copyright ownership, promote their brand, and discourage image theft. A well-placed, semi-transparent watermark deters copying while keeping the image fully viewable.
Text vs Image Watermark
| Feature | Text Watermark | Image Watermark |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Just type your text | Upload a PNG logo |
| Customization | Font, size, color, rotation | Size and opacity |
| Tiling | Yes — repeat across image | No |
| Best for | Copyright text, names, dates | Logo branding |
| Transparency | Adjustable opacity | Supports PNG transparency |
Tips for Effective Watermarks
- Place watermarks in the center or across the subject of the photo — not just a corner, which is easy to crop out.
- Use white or light gray text with 50–70% opacity for images with dark backgrounds; use dark text for light backgrounds.
- Enable tiling for maximum protection — repeated watermarks are much harder to remove than a single corner watermark.
- For logo watermarks, use a PNG with transparent background so only your logo shape appears, not a colored rectangle.
