What is an Image Converter?
An online image converter is a free browser-based tool that changes an image from one file format to another — for example, converting a JPG photo to WEBP for faster website loading, or converting a PNG to JPG to reduce file size for email attachments.
Calcon's Image Converter supports 8 popular formats including JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, ICO, SVG, and TIFF — all processed directly in your browser with no file uploads to any server.

- Select your output format by clicking one of the format buttons: JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, or ICO.

When to Use Each Image Format
Use JPG/JPEG for:
Photographs, social media images, email attachments, and any image where file size matters more than transparency. JPG uses lossy compression which reduces file size significantly — ideal for photos with millions of colors.
Use PNG for:
Logos, screenshots, graphics with text, and any image that needs a transparent background. PNG uses lossless compression — no quality is lost but files are larger than JPG.
Use WEBP for:
Website images where page loading speed matters. WEBP is Google's modern image format that is 25–35% smaller than JPG and PNG at the same visual quality. Supported by all modern browsers.
Use GIF for:
Simple animated images, small icons, and graphics with limited colors (max 256 colors). GIF supports animation and transparency but is not suitable for photographs.
Use BMP for:
Windows applications, printing, and image editing workflows that require uncompressed raw image data. BMP files are large but contain full quality pixel data.
Use ICO for:
Website favicons (the small icon shown in browser tabs), Windows desktop icons, and application icons. ICO files are typically 32×32 or 64×64 pixels.
Use SVG for:
Logos, icons, and illustrations that need to scale to any size without losing quality. SVG is a vector format that looks sharp on any screen resolution.
