What is a PPF Calculator?

A PPF Calculator is an online tool that estimates the maturity value of your Public Provident Fund account based on your annual contribution, tenure, and the current interest rate. It uses the annual compound interest formula so you can instantly see how much your savings will grow - without spreadsheets or manual calculations.

This calculator works for both bank PPF accounts (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, etc.) and Post Office PPF accounts - the interest rate and rules are identical for both.

PPF Interest Rate 2026-27

The Government of India has kept the PPF interest rate at 7.1% per annum for 2026-27, compounded annually. Interest is credited to your account on 31 March each year, calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of each month - so always deposit before the 5th to earn full interest for that month.

How the PPF Maturity Calculator Works

Enter three values and the calculator does the rest:

  1. Annual Investment - the amount you plan to contribute each year (₹500 to ₹1,50,000)
  2. Tenure - the number of years you will invest (minimum 15 years; extendable in 5-year blocks)
  3. Interest Rate - pre-filled at 7.1% but adjustable if the rate changes

The calculator outputs your total investment, total interest earned, and final maturity amount.

PPF Maturity - How Much Will You Earn?

At 7.1% interest, here is what you can expect at the end of 15 years:

Annual InvestmentTotal InvestedInterest EarnedMaturity Amount
₹50,000₹7,50,000~₹5,91,576~₹13,41,576
₹1,00,000₹15,00,000~₹11,83,152~₹26,83,152
₹1,50,000₹22,50,000~₹17,74,728~₹40,24,728

Extending the account for 5 more years (20 years total) at ₹1,50,000/year pushes the maturity amount to over ₹66 lakh.

Key PPF Account Rules

  • Minimum deposit: ₹500 per financial year (account becomes inactive if missed)
  • Maximum deposit: ₹1,50,000 per financial year
  • Lock-in period: 15 years from account opening
  • Partial withdrawal: Allowed from year 7 - up to 50% of the balance at the end of year 4
  • Loan facility: Available from year 3 to year 6 at PPF rate + 1%
  • Extension: 5-year blocks after maturity, with or without fresh contributions

Tax Benefits of PPF (EEE Status)

PPF offers the most tax-efficient structure available in India - Exempt-Exempt-Exempt (EEE):

  • Contribution: Deductible up to ₹1.5 lakh under Section 80C
  • Interest: Completely tax-free every year
  • Maturity amount: Fully tax-exempt - no TDS, no income tax

By contrast, FD interest is taxed as per your income slab. At a 30% tax slab, an FD offering 7.5% yields only ~5.25% post-tax - lower than PPF's 7.1% tax-free return.
