How to Use the Scientific Calculator
This online scientific calculator supports all standard operations as well as trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan), logarithms (log, ln), powers (x², x³, xⁿ), square root, the constants π and e, and scientific notation (EXP). Toggle between degree and radian mode for trigonometric calculations. Results are saved in the history panel for reference.
- DEG/RAD: Switch between degree and radian mode for trig functions.
- ANS: Inserts the last result into the current expression.
- xⁿ: Enter the base, press xⁿ, then enter the exponent and press =.
- EXP: Scientific notation — 1.5 EXP 6 = 1,500,000.
- History: Last 10 calculations are shown on the right panel.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the value of sin(90°)?
sin(90°) = 1. In radians, sin(π/2) = 1. Always confirm the DEG or RAD mode is correctly selected before computing trigonometric values.
What is log vs ln?
log (common logarithm) uses base 10: log(100) = 2. ln (natural logarithm) uses Euler's number e ≈ 2.71828 as its base: ln(e) = 1. log is widely used in engineering and pH calculations; ln appears in calculus, statistics, and physics.
What is the value of π (pi)?
π (pi) is approximately 3.14159265358979. It is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and appears in geometry, trigonometry, and physics.
What does the EXP button do?
EXP enters scientific notation, multiplying the current number by a power of 10. For example, pressing 1.5 then EXP then 3 and = gives 1500 (1.5 × 10³). It is used for very large or very small numbers in physics and engineering.
What is the difference between degrees and radians?
Degrees divide a full rotation into 360 parts. Radians measure the angle by the arc length on a unit circle: 2π radians = 360°. Use DEG mode for everyday geometry; switch to RAD mode for calculus and advanced mathematics.
