Free Currency Converter for Indian Users

Whether you are an NRI sending money home, planning a trip abroad, paying for an online course in dollars or shopping from an international website, you need to know what a foreign price means in rupees. This converter turns any amount between the Indian Rupee and 160 world currencies, shows the rate in both directions and charts how the pair has moved over the last 30 days.

How the Currency Converter Works

  1. Enter the amount you want to convert.
  2. Choose the currency you have in the From box and the currency you want in the To box.
  3. The converted amount appears instantly, with the rate for one unit of each currency.
  4. Use the swap button to reverse the conversion, or tap a currency in the Popular currencies to INR table to load it.

All rates come from a single daily snapshot. A pair such as AED to INR is worked out as a cross rate from that snapshot, so every pair is consistent with every other pair and the result updates as you type.

About These Exchange Rates

The rates are mid-market reference rates blended from central bank data. The mid-market rate sits halfway between the price at which banks buy and sell a currency, so it is the fairest single number for comparing quotes.

Banks, forex cards, remittance services and airport money changers add a spread to this rate and sometimes a flat fee. If a provider quotes you a rate close to the one shown here, you are getting a good deal. If it is far off, it is worth shopping around.

New rates are published once per banking day. On weekends and holidays the last published rate carries forward, which is why the trend line can look flat on those days.

Common Uses

  • NRI remittances: check what your dirhams, riyals or dollars are worth in rupees before you send money home.
  • Foreign travel: budget for a trip and compare forex card and cash rates against the mid-market rate.
  • Online shopping and subscriptions: see the rupee cost of software, courses and products priced in USD or EUR.
  • Freelancing and exports: estimate the rupee value of invoices raised in foreign currency.

Frequently Asked Questions About Currency Converter

How often are the exchange rates updated?

Rates are refreshed once per banking day from central bank reference data. On weekends and bank holidays no new rates are published, so the converter keeps showing the last published rate. The date the rates were last updated is shown just below the result.

Why is my bank or forex card rate different from this converter?

This converter shows the mid-market rate, which is the midpoint between the buying and selling price in the wholesale market. Banks, forex cards, remittance apps and money changers add a margin on top of this rate and may also charge a fee, so the rate you actually get is usually a little worse. Use this tool to check how close a quote is to the mid-market rate.

Why is this rate slightly different from Google?

Google usually shows a live market quote from a forex data provider, while this tool shows a daily mid-market reference rate blended from around 98 central banks. They are measured in different ways and at different times, so they typically differ by a very small amount, often under 0.1 percent. On weekends and public holidays the forex market is closed, so both may show the last available rate rather than a live one. In every case the difference is far smaller than the 1 to 3 percent margin most banks and forex cards add, so treat this as an indicative rate for reference, not a transaction quote.

Are these live exchange rates?

No. These are indicative daily reference rates, not live trading rates that change every second. They are ideal for budgeting, comparing remittance quotes, checking foreign prices and planning travel, but they are not a quote for any transaction.

Which currencies does the converter support?

It supports 160 world currencies, including the Indian Rupee, US Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Japanese Yen and all Gulf currencies such as the UAE Dirham, Saudi Riyal, Qatari Riyal, Kuwaiti Dinar, Bahraini Dinar and Omani Rial. Precious metals and Special Drawing Rights are not included.

How do I convert US dollars to Indian rupees?

Enter the amount, choose USD in the From box and INR in the To box. The converted amount appears instantly, along with the rate for 1 USD and the reverse rate for 1 INR. Use the swap button to convert rupees back to dollars.

Is this currency converter free?

Yes, it is completely free, with no sign-up and no usage limit. It works on mobile, tablet and desktop.

Disclaimer: Rates shown are indicative mid-market rates updated once per banking day. They are for information only and are not a quote or offer for any transaction. Check the final rate and fees with your bank or provider before you exchange or send money.
